Discussion “Women’s situation: implementation of the principle of equal opportunities in Ukraine and Belarus”

On July 16, EESC and together with the NGDO Platform held a discussion on “Women’s situation: implementation of the principle of equal opportunities in Ukraine and Belarus – does development cooperation projects sufficiently contribute to gender equality?’. Discussion included following presenters: Dr Margarita Jankauskaitė, Expert at the Center for Equality Advancement, who focused her remarks on the question whether support for women and gender equality can be effective if it is done as a separate program, and Anastasia Stefanovič, Director of the International Election Research Center, who shared her experience of implementing development cooperation projects in the field of gender equality in Belarus. The discussion was moderated by Dovilė Šukytė, Policy Analyst, EESC.

The event was organized in the framework of the project ‘2015 European Year for Development: the Role of the Media’. The project is funded by the European Union and Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The goal of the Project is to raise the awareness and ability of Lithuanian journalists about the European Union’s development cooperation issues and their reflection in the media and social networks.
