The Conference “Perception of Aid in Lithuania: Syndrome of “Empty Pockets”?” (June 28-29, 2010)

The conference “Perception of Aid in Lithuania: Syndrome of “Empty Pockets”?” was held at the Eastern Europe Studies Centre on June 28-29, 2010. It was initiated by the National Platform of Development Cooperation NGOs and the National Network of Poverty Reduction Organizations. The event was organized in cooperation with the Eastern Europe Studies Centre.

On the first day the participants of the conference were invited to the cinema “Pasaka” to watch documentaries on the uprising in Burma that took place in autumn 2007 (A.Ostergaard’s film “Burma VJ: Reporting from a Closed Country”) as well as on Cuban artists striving to unite local communities of Havana (J.Didziulis film “Another Cuba: Fluxus in the Tropics”). The first was commented by human rights activist and expert of the Human Rights Institute in Burma Ms. Pan Tsun Saga.

The second day of the conference was devoted to discussions that took place in the Eastern Europe Studies Centre.  People working in various spheres of activity shared their experience and knowledge. Initiator and hostess of the famous TV show “Trouble Market”  E. Mildazytė, musician G. Liaudanskas (Svaras) and journalist  V. Pugaciauskas – these are only a few names of persons who agreed to join us and share their thoughts and practices on the means of poverty reduction.
