Oct 26, 2012 | 2012, News

On the 28th of October 7 Lithuanian observers, sent by the Eastern Europe Studies Centre (EESC), were observing the Parliamentary elections in Ukraine. The EESC observers are part of a larger International Civil Society Observation Mission containing 50 participants, which is organised by the EESC, Stefan Batory Foundation (Poland) and European Exchange (Germany).

The International Civil Society Observation Mission has concluded that: “In spite of considerable shortcomings, the elections provided for a competitive process allowing voters to express their political preferences. While elections were administered in an adequate manner and election day was generally calm, the fairness of the overall election process was considerably affected by abuse of privileged position by those in power.” Full preliminary statement of findings and conclusions of the International Civil Society Election Observation Mission to Ukraine can be downloaded from here.

The election observation mission is implemented in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Ukraine.
