On September 23, EESC has held an event “EU Neighborhood Policy from the Orange Revolution to the Maidan: Achievements, Challenges and Opportunities“ in the South East region of Lithuania Šalčininkai. The meeting has gathered representatives of the Šalčininkai District Municipality, active youth, local journalists and community members interested to discuss Lithuania’s membership in the EU, Lithuanian-Polish Relations, events in Ukraine and the future of the EU Eastern Partnership Policy.
EESC analysts Linas Kojala and Vytautas Keršanskas have underlined main achievements and challenges of Lithuania‘s ten years membership in the EU. European Union and EU Neighbourhood policy achievements. Julija Mackevič, Founder and Leader of the Youth Co-operation Centre “Europroject” touched upon the opportunities and perspectives for Lithuania‘s youth after countries’ accession to the EU. Foreign guests – foreign policy expert from Poland Vojcech Borodič-Smolinski, representative of Ukraine‘s Polissa International and Region Studies Fund Gennady Maksak and Jevgenij Preiherman, Belarusian analytical company „Club of Liberals“ – scrutinized the future of the EU Eastern Partnership Policy, including events after the Maidan, its possible effect to neighboring countries such as Belarus and Lithuanian-Polish relations.
The event concluded by quiz themed about “Lithuania in the EU and the Eastern Partnership Policy“.
