Conference “Security Policy of Japan”

On October 22, the Embassy of Japan in Lithuania and EESC in corporation with Seimas held conference “Security Policy of Japan”. Among the speakers were H.E. Masafumi Ishii, Ambassador of Japan in charge of Public Diplomacy in Europe, Benediktas Juodka, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Konstantinas Andrijauskas, lecturer at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science, Vilnius University.

In his remarks Juodka touched upon security challenges faced by both Lithuania and Japan, including situation in Ukraine and migration crisis. Ambassador Ishii informed about undergoing constitutional, policy and security changes in Japan.  While Andrijauskas brought participants’ attention to the fact that today China provides an alternative to the Western world, including Japan, in politics, economy or even in the field of human rights. He called for continuation of similar discussions in order to sustain the influence and values of the West.
